The resources required are increasing, and will continue to increase. Demand for oil will fall off a cliff within a decade, and not because of any of the inane "green" initiatives now being touted and exploited by cynical wannabe Rulers of Humanity. Even if it did not fall off, it is now relatively easy to genetically engineer plants to generate the hydrocarbon feedstock, even biodegradable plastic. Vertical hydroponics farming can provide food for far more people than current farming practices, if necessary. Within 10-20 years humanity will be wealthier and healthier than you can imagine.
